Join Anna Inazu & Michelle Castor for another embodied vision board practice that roots into hope and storytelling as resistance while honoring our journeys, legacies, the seasons, and more than linear timelines.
While we know time is not linear, we also know the importance of locating ourselves in time, especially now. As we watch genocide and apartheid happening in real time, as maybe our own (familial) relationships to imperialism, genocide, displacement, oppression are being activated - we know how challenging it can be to vision. And we also know the importance - and power - of our hope and our stories.
We’re calling in and mourning all the souls who were martyred in Palestine - as well as their stories, dreams, futures, and worlds.
“Hope is a discipline” Mariame Kaba reminds us. How do we ground ourselves in this practice in this world? In these times? We can explore the possibility of dreaming by first rooting into what roots us, who roots us. By rooting into what we can do (and where we can turn) when we don’t feel rooted.
And so, this season we will be dreaming and visioning a little differently.
We will create visual stories to name our roots (this could include: ancestral ties, chosen family, kinship, known lineages, family histories, other roots we’ve created, all the known and unknown sources that shape us/steady us, and beyond) and lean into curiosity about how we will bloom. As a collective. As individuals.
We will reflect on and explore questions like:
How can our roots hold us when we don’t feel rooted? How can they support us during these traumatic times?
What are the future stories we want to manifest?
We will also create space to name & normalize the barriers to visioning right now - and support one other to honor those challenges and make space for them to flow, instead of getting stuck in potentially detrimental ways.
What To Expect:
Our sessions will include facilitated: breathing practice to open, self-reflection, feeling into or around the body & meditation, discussion & sharing, and tools for creating vision boards & visual stories. Prior to our first session, we will provide with you guided tools and practices for creating your own vision board or visual story.
Session 1: Sunday, January 14th at 11am PST | 12noon MST
Our circle will include journaling prompts based around this season’s theme of roots.
We will also offer a guided and gentle embodiment practice. This practice is an invitation to be curious about the bodily sensations that we may be feeling in relation to these times, our roots, and to practice embodying “feeling rooted.”
We will make space to name the barriers or resistance we may be facing when it comes to hope, visioning, and futures.
Time permitting, we will have a short work time to begin crafting our stories!
Session #2: Saturday, January 27th, 2024 at 11am PST | 12noon MST
We’ll come back together in this second session to reflect on our process with creating our stories, what barriers may have surfaced, and if/how we found movement.
We will also share our visual stories with one another in a co-created supportive space. (You will get to share as much as you wish - and your vision board is welcome in whatever stage of “completion” it may be in).
What You’ll Need:
a journal, notebook, or something to write with.
any vision board tools you may wish to have on hand (this could include: magazines, markers, computer, pictures, and more).
any photographs, mementos, candles, or other special items that may support you in this practice
for our second session on January 27th - please bring your visual story!
we always recommend creating a comfortable and cozy space for you to be in attendance - however that might look.
This circle is for anyone who is:
looking to channel their grief, rage into visual storytelling
looking to identify, feel, and visualize their personal and collective desires, hopes, and dreams
looking for community witnessing & support as they dream and take action on what they’re manifesting
is feeling that hope or visioning is in accessible and would like community witnessing & support to name, normalize, and move through
would like to honor all those that have shaped them, have helped lead them to this moment - known and unknown - and explore what might bloom from these roots
As always, our work centers BIPOC fam, LGBTQIA+ sibs, hopeful or current parents whose parenting or healing journeys exist beyond the so-called “norm,” and all those that are seeking nurturing and heart-centered space and guidance.
About Your Facilitators:
Anna is a queer Korean adoptee, deeply inspired by personal stories and acts of storytelling (writing, visual and spoken). Vision boarding is a concrete & imaginative exercise that has helped Anna reflect on the past, stay present in the now, and vision into the future.
Michelle is a queer mixed brown femme and the owner of Agua y Sangre Healing. As a portal doula they support individuals and communities in navigating the portal like transformations of grief, loss, pregnancy, and the postpartum - through honoring, integrating, and intentionally imagining and creating life on the “other side” of these portals or thresholds.
